Orphans Know More (OKM) is part of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Harpenden, (UK registered charity no. 1156783) and is subject to oversight by the YWAM Harpenden Board of Trustees. Income and expenditure of OKM is included in the financial results of YWAM which are subject to audit by an independent firm of accountants. The operations and activities of OKM are managed and overseen by an Advisory Board which meets regularly three or four times a year.
The Advisory Board are acutely aware of the need to work in harmony with the local community and the importance of understanding and reacting to local needs. We therefore work in partnership with YWAM Uganda, a charity registered in Uganda, who have been actively working within Uganda for many years in the following areas: HIV/AIDS, Maternal Child Health, Training, Outpatient clinic services, Working with Children with Various Disabilities, Counselling – Family, Community, Children in Bereavement, and Recovery from Prostitution.
Our Advisory Board
The Peachey Family
John and Suzi Peachey, together with their four children, started Orphans Know More. They have more than 30 years’ experience in the charity sector involved in leadership training. Both lived and worked in East Africa on various development projects including leading a team of British and East African educators and administrators starting a secondary school for the Maasai. Suzi’s degree is in education and she taught for five years in Jersey and London. John completed a post graduate diploma in Research Methods in Education at the University of Surrey and is working part time on a PhD in Education at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies and Middlesex University. The Peachey young adults continue to support and advise OKM as they work and study in business and design.
The Mansour Family
John and Sharon are married with 3 children. John has a passion for seeing businesses developed as a tool to lift people out of poverty. John’s experience extends from business to NGO management and social entrepreneurship to sales. He has an MBA with a focus in social entrepreneurship, from HULT Ashridge. Sharon has a background in Pediatric nursing and Masters in Global Development, she was also a part of the team that helped pioneer Orphans Know More. Both Sharon and John are firm believers that family is the best place for children to grow up and enjoy engaging with others to make this possible for the children of Orphans Know More.
The Lake Family
Quintin & Angela Lake live outside Wigan and are parents to three girls. They run a small business, helping companies tackle the challenge of modern slavery and labour exploitation in their supply chains. Quintin was part of the team that founded Orphans Know More and has been privileged to watch it transform families in Uganda over the past eleven years. Both are committed to seeing good business and education empower individuals to fulfil their potential.
The Rawlinson Family
Eunice and Alastair are married with two children in their 20’s and live in Harpenden. They are members of St Nicholas’ church. Eunice has helped with the bookkeeping and preparation of accounts for OKM since its formation in 2005. Alastair has retired from working with a Private Bank in the City and joined the OKM Advisory Board in 2011. They are both committed to the vision of OKM and see real value in the work it does for orphans in Uganda.
The Blackwell Family
Paula and Richard and their two sons committed to make OKM happen from the very start. Paula’s gifts in creating events and her wide network of friends has kept OKM highly relational with a generous dose of celebration! As a senior partner in one of the large accountancy firms, Richard brings his experience in governance and finance to the board. Both have enjoyed working together to alleviate poverty, assisting our incredible African families care for children.
